Job Summary
Are you a Fire Protection Engineer who enjoys designing and taking projects from start to finish? Join our team and work on a variety of commercial building projects. You’ll be part of a collaborative project team, including Project Managers and other Engineers/Designers, and have the opportunity to take ownership of your projects.
What You’ll Do
As a Fire Protection Engineer, you will develop fire protection systems for commercial building projects. You will provide engineering solutions and create comprehensive design documentation, perform calculations for standpipe, sprinkler, and fire pump sizes, select appropriate equipment, and coordinate clearances, specifications, and details. You will collaborate with internal and external project stakeholders to ensure successful project delivery.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
You will help to develop company technical standards, including specifications and best practices. You will also act as a resource for technical support on fire protection projects, and contribute to marketing materials and external presentations with your fire protection knowledge. You will conduct technical training sessions within the company, focusing on fire protection, mentor and guide less experienced staff to help them grow, and promote and train others in using our master design tools and standards.
In your role as a technical design leader, you will produce technical designs based on client and project manager requirements, develop and document project requirements, provide multiple design options, and highlight the pros and cons of each. You will research and resolve non-standard code questions with relevant authorities, find creative solutions to support our architectural partners’ visions, assess and analyze existing fire protection systems, and stay informed about current design trends and best practices.
You will offer ongoing technical guidance to the design team, delegate design tasks to team members, ensure designs meet quality expectations set by the project manager, coordinate with all design disciplines and partners, ensure the project team completes the design on schedule, and lead the construction administration phase, including attending construction meetings. You will manage the budget by keeping design work within the budgeted hours, obtaining approval from the project manager before using additional hours, providing accurate input on the hours needed for design tasks, resolving design issues to keep projects within budget, and informing the project manager if additional services are requested.
You will lead project documentation for all phases based on client and project manager directions, ensure the QA/QC process is followed and documented, maintain an organized workspace and electronic filing system, and contribute to and follow master design standards.
What We Offer
We offer a long-term position with growth potential, investment in licensure, professional development, and continuing education, and the opportunity to work on a wide variety of projects in different market sectors. Salary of $90,000 to $120,000. This is a direct-hire position with comprehensive benefits and a flexible and casual working environment.
